| Reporting phishing DM’s |

Hey all (although probably more of a question to the mods) :) I got a DM that was a pretty obvious scam message (the good ol’ we won lots of money and want to give you some :P) and just wanted to check what is the best course of action for reporting these? There is the “report to admin” button but I remember reading somewhere that admins couldn’t see DM’s (I think in the forum rules) so just wanted to check if I need to copy the contents of the DM into the message to the mods along with the persons user name and a note saying phishing / scam attempt etc.? Also, should I keep the “send to all admin” option selected for stuff like this or one of the other options? Sorry in advance! I know you guys probably have much more important stuff to do than dealing with shitty scammers but just hate the thought of someone getting caught out because I didn’t report it! |

Yes, you can report it. They can't see your DMs in normal circumstances but if you report one they can see that one. |

Strikes me as odd that new members (spammers) can even send these PMs. A simple rule that might prevent this kind of spam is prohibiting new members from sending PM's - the privilege might only become available after 10 posts. It wouldn't prevent all spam, but could prevent some of it. I'm not sure if SMF supports this but other forums I've used definitely did have a rule like this. |
