request: smf ignore user mod
« on: January 11, 2011, 06:15:17 pm »
hello, I have a small feature request for the forum.

can you please install a module (there are a number of them freely available, e.g. http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2118) which allows one to ignore all posts by a user?

there are certain users who irritate me with each and every nonsensical post...
and good grief, they make their presence known in every possible thread, it's unbelievable.

i try to scroll by as quickly as i can when I see their icon but I think a great solution is to install one of the popular mods.

I would second that.

(hmmm, hope Emit isn't talking about me!  :) )
I'm either at my bench, here, or on PokerStars.

An option to ignore topics would be handy as well.

As the OP said, there are some mods to smf to ingore users/topics/boards.

If Dave reaches his goal to give up his day job to concentrate on the blog/website. then maybe a switch to a commercial forum package is on the cards?

vBulletin is the most popular of the commercial packages and provides the discussed capabilities as standard. Not that expensive either, especially for a successful web entrepreneur   ;)

While we are on the subject of changes to the forum settings. Could we also have the forum setup so topics with new posts are easy to spot.

Maybe there is a setting i've not discovered yet but currently there doesn't seem to be any difference between topics with no activity since my last visit and topics with new posts.

On the main forum page it's easy to tell as the icon is blue instead of gray but inside the forum there doesnt seem to be any indicator on topics.

"new" button that takes you to the last post you read besides the title not showing up for you?

Installed ok.
I can't immediately see how to ignore a user though?

Dave.

Dave,
Which particular mod did you install?
I've looked through the various ignore user mods and none of the options they install seem to be there.
There is an option in the Messages area of my profile that lets me ignore messages from listed users but that may have been there previously.

Wow.
All the way to the right on a topic line is a button that takes you directly to the last post.
Is that new? Or was I just too dense to notice it before?
At any rate, I love it.

Not sure! I did just added a plugin that creates the NEW button, maybe that did it?

I'm afraid it's the former, I've been using that forever. The 'new' icons for individual posts are new, I think.

Well to be honest I'd just bypass the users that annoy you, unfortunately we live in the real world, I often read a thread while not paying much attention to certain posts of certain users
