RF ID of hotel towelling?
« on: December 11, 2020, 11:55:42 pm »
Is this a thing? I'm guessing a bluff.
I checked with a high powered flashlight and couldn't see anything.
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

I wonder how well that deals with people soaking and then putting them in microwave ovens to warm them up...

RFID chips are tiny. There could be one or more woven into the fabric using a conductive thread as an antenna.

just take it with you and say you forgot to see what happens
that website is so fucking lame

"towel losses into towel profits." yea you are gonna turn a profit implementing that  :palm:

"Towel Tracker is considered a high tech amenity by end users, especially Millennials."

Who the hell writes this stuff ::)

Mhmm, yes, it's a handy way to prevent theft, to track linen service useage, generate billing etc. etc.

Lots of advantages for linen supply, laundry, hospitality businesses.

Nothing a pair of scissors or a small pocket knife won't fix if you're aware of it and really want the fluffy dressing gown.

I *think* the RFID tags in my Decathlon trainers are similar tech, might cut one out to see if I can read one with my phone before and  after a trip through the microwave.

I'd scan the customer's bags on the way out, and simply add a towel charge when checking out.

Kind of what some supermarkets were doing to customers who showed up with 35,000 items in the "8 items or less" line. They'd just add a charge for the extra items. At least that's what the sign at the cash said, I never found out if it was implemented.

in a small supermarket half the time it does not matter which lane you go to because they all have the same speed at the right time of day, adding a extra charge there would overwork and underwork employees

I would probobly stop shopping there if I got hit by such a charge.

Maybe it would be warranted for a manager to invoke such a charge when its clogged but under normal operation its a hindrance to smooth business. Very draconian and the person standing in the 10 items or less will do nothing most of the time, especially with a virus (buy more go less). But realistically the person there should ask you to leave the isle and go to another one rather then charge you more, its like getting hit with a land mine when you get the bill.
