I got mine a while ago from http://dealexcel.com also looked like a bit of a fishy site. I purhased it for $389 USD with free shipping and received it in 7 business days to Milwaukee, Wisconsin from china. pretty good I think. I love this 100Mhz 1052E rigol scope :p

Interesting to note that the http://www.getbetterlife.com/ site has the DS1102E for only $US100 more than the DS1052E.
I thought the price difference was much greater than that.

The extra bytes increase the weight, so distribution shipping costs more  ;D

I ordered from dealextreme.com for $404.

However it is saying that it won't arrive until almost 4-30-10... I ordered on 4-9-10... Seems a bit long and the order processing is a bit strange.

It sounds like this website is some middle man selling the product... once they sell it they get it from their source then ships it to me. A bit "Dodgy" as Dave would say.

Lets hope everything arrives as it should.

If I were looking at buying this scope at this site, I would wait and see how my transaction finishes.

I too ordered from getbetterlife, I emailed them initially and they said they hard a large amount of stock. I was hesitant to order from dealextreme even though I love the site because they were sold out and I knew that with the new rush of orders, by the time I received mine Rigol might have firmware blocked the mod. I also notified dealextreme of the price difference, as getbetterlife's unit is a bit cheaper...hence the price change.

For anyone interested, my tracking number given seems to be accurate and the site doesn't appear to be a scam. While little is said about it on resellerratings the two reviews are positive.

I'd recommend it for anyone who orders from DX and finds that they are now out of stock, potentially due to Rigol intervention.

Hope this helps

I ordered at Deal Extreme last week and it is shipped today ... I think that is a reasonable time for shipping. Can't wait to see what firmware and join the 100MHz party. On a side note, Rigol should play this to it's advantage as any mucking about of firmware to gimp the scopes full realized potential is bad publicity and won't sit too well with future customers who hear of this legendary mix up on there part. Now what they should do is phase out the 50MHz and just sell the 100MHz line. Reintroduce a redesign for the 50MHz when it really is hardware capable of only 50MHz, not gimping full powered Scopes through software.

I hope this is their strategy, anyways I'll wait until my unit arrives to see whether I've bit my own tongue.

Even the new firmware is downgrade-able as Dave shows in his video #77. If not hardware mod it ahah.

I love dealexteme but they didn't seem to have enough stock to meet the demand, and then stopped shipments for a week or two hence my going to getbetterlife.

Yeah I'm hoping the intermittent stop doesn't mean they got new hardware which is gimped at the hardware level. Fingers crossed, I'll post when it arrives.

Hu? I ordered like 2 weeks ago and it's still "waiting for stock"... are you sure it's send out (aka do you got a tracking nr?)
Real Circuit design time in minutes= (2 + Nscopes) Testim + (40 +120 Kbrewski) Nfriends

Testim = estimated time in minutes Nscopes= number of oscilloscopes present Kbrewski = linear approx of the nonlinear beer effect Nfriends = number of circuit design friends present

Hi:

I have just put my hands on it:

It has 00.02.02 SP2 firmware version. No UltraZoom sticker.

Male RS232 connector. My USB-RS232 adapter has a male connector too, so ten minutes to build a female-female RS232 cable with the solder.

1 minute to hack it.

1 minute to upgrade to 00.02.04 firmware.

All working as expected for a DS1102E.

Soo: BINGO! ;)

IƱigo.

A minor thing but I noticed (at least on my unit) that the 2.04 firmware lacks help text. If you push any button down and hold it, you should get help text for that feature. With 2.04 it tries to load the first time you do it, but does nothing.

Now actually I don't care about the help, but it does make me wonder if the 2.04 is "prerelease" or something and I haven't noticed any benefit to having it on there. Easy enough to switch back and forth, of course, as our host has shown on video ;-)

No joke, I got a tracking number and all ... mine is shipped out, don't know why myself ... as when I ordered it said 04/30/2010 to ship, well can't complain until the box arrives and I realize they sent the wrong item.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Last arrived unit:

No Ultrazoom logo.
Factory calibrate date: 08.Apr.2010
FW: 00.02.02.SP2
Test: Mod to 1102E normal ok, returned to original 1052E, ok.

Now I want ask: Are there anybody who have get machine so that it have original Rigol factory in China intalled FW02.04.
If there is any, where from it arrive?

(becouse I believe that this FW  02.04 what is shared unofficially is not any kind of final version of official Rigol FW to DS1000E series.
It may be some kind of develop version or something like "try this for solve problem" and given to some cutomer separately but I believe (as long as there is not other proofments) it is NOT final version on production line. (example somebody tell that there is no "help" texts... also inside 00.04 FW file are other "mysterious" things...) Also if you ask FW upgrade from Rigol, as there read in manual, there need serial number. (not all scopes are same HW versions)

Also I have some time ago answer from China... FW is 00.02.02.SP2

Today arrive more DS1052E.
And they come directly from China.

No "ultrazoom" on the label. Serial numbers littlebit later.
But still all units factory calibration date 8 April 2010.

This time all have FW 02 04 factory installed. Also factory installed 0204 have "help texts" for every button. (somebody before tell that no help texts)

So current FW version in production is 00 02 04. Still can not know if this FW is fully compatible also for all HW versions (and serial numbers *) ) what have made before.

*) Read Upgrade manual.

Got mine from an eBay seller. It was calibrated on March 3, 2010. It does have the UltraZoom logo printed on top. It has an "American Standard" power cord. Firmware is 2.02SP2. Does anyone know what problems 2.04 fix?

Here is genuine 02.02.SP2
This share was shared in Rigol official chinese sites, March 2010.
After then they take FW update off.
(Rigol sides in China, NOT any "rigolna". This "rigolna" do not update they sites or they update very very slowly.)

http://www.box.net/shared/et7ztaxauf

This is whole zip include upgrade manual and FW upgrade for DS1000E and DS1000D (be careful: use right model!!!)

I do not know if all product versions are compatible for old FW.

Also I do not have new official product version 00.02.04.00.01 FW. (exept inside some Rigol scopes)
This time nobody can not know difference, we can only quessing.

Remember this manufacturer note as long as it is in current note.
"6. Before the upgrade, please contact RIGOL Technical and Support Department to confirm whether the current firmware version can be upgraded to the target version or not."

If it works with one or some units it do not proof that it works with you individual scope.

So you know risks for FW upgrade/downgrade and mod.

Think twice before you do and think more than twice if you really need it.

Maybe littlebit more sampling noise as original DS1102E. (I have seen one, there was more sampling noise/jitter... sampling noise is one of most important think in digital scope quality... peoples can simple think that A/D sampling is just as "modulator" (sampled signal is modulated with this "noise" and you see on the screen only this production, not original signal.)
(factory have not selected this individual unit (main board) for make 1102E ... it have ranked to 1052E production)

And most important what Rigol need is better quality BW filtering before A/D... NOT simple more wide. It need more tight reject for high frequencies! Also it need less noise in A/D timing. Good mods for these?
becouse factory have not select this individual HW for 1102E)

---------------

BTW this DS6000 is very interesting scope....(pict 1)
http://www.rigol.com/index.aspx?type=zhcn
(here you find also manuals and other downloads what are more frequently updated as in "rigolna"... may be "rigolna" is in US and this is maybe reason why they are not updated. )

Of course it is same, version number is exactly same. in China it was in public official share! (no need ask)

But example manuals, rigolna still share 2008 manual... (and also other obsolete material - why?)

I do not understand Rigol. Not very clever to use separate database. (maybe rigolna is not very important part of Rigol... maybe most important part of markets are in fast developing Asia and not in technical museum.)

(later after this public modification with loud voice to all world they take it off and after then they also do work for stop this posibility in future. Next is maybe so that they lock downgrade and take off mod+serial number commands (and also some other interesting not documented commands).

Open case, make mod, loose warranty.

Simple HW mod do not give 2ns/div (and 25Gs/s egual-time)

Of course HW modifications are possible. There is also possible to try do better HW mod than desolder one part.
If want really better scope... analog front end need do better... better flatness, better rejection for over band frequencies.

I found my Rigol DS1052E sitting on my front porch after I got back in town today. It was purchased from DX back in 4-23-2010. Firmware version 2.04 and no UltraZoom logo(Which is excelent). Unit was calibrated 4-20-2010.

I downgraded FW back to 02.02.02 for 100MHz mod and upgraded back to 2.04. Everything works perfectly. Posting this detail just incase you guys are keeping track of this stuff.

Your 2.04 have now example "help texts" if press some button long time?
If you ask scope *IDN? what it tell about 02.04 version. (scope display do not show whole version number!)

This time factory current product version is 00.02.04.00.01
