Rigol Function Generators ... purchase advice please.
« on: December 17, 2016, 02:28:22 am »
Looking for a budget Function Generator.  I'm comparing the below models on Tequipment.net.   This will be my first major purchase of this type, so I'm not sure what all the specs mean.

Rigol DG1022  $299
Rigol DG1022A  $358
Rigol DG1022Z  $359

I'm intrigued that there is just $1 difference between the DG1022A and DG1022Z.

Which one is the BEST of the 3 and which one is the best bang for the buck?

I define BEST as
  • Best Specs
  • Most features
  • Most future proof

I define bang for the buck as
  • Best dollar value
  • Ease of use

As a reference point, my current model is a FeelTech FY3200S.  Thanks for any advice.

1022Z has best spec and at only $1 more, I would think the clear winner. Haven't really seen any reviews so far though. I managed to snag a few 1022As from auction, but haven't had time to play much other than to find the interface pretty intuitive.

I have the Rigol DG1022  $299, can you explain what your Feeltech isn't capable of ?
Just to understand the differences.

The DG1022 works fine, I only think the way of setting/changing frequencies  is unintuitive,
and the display with , . is a mess. I have a sticker with "10.000,000 = 10" on it.
In my culture, 10.000=10000 and 10,000=10

There is a buffer/amplifier available for this model. It's useful, because the signal is easyly influenced by the load, and there is no warning/indication of that on the device.

If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a nonworking cat.
