Hello there,

I got a DS1052E. The hooks at the end of the probes have been worn out. The rest of the probe is fine, it is only the hook which needs replacement.

What is my best option?

Thank you for your time,

Kind regards,
Marius

yeah, you have to be careful with the ricol ones.
If you solder something and the heat transfers to the nearby probe clip the spring will push the clip back into the now soft plastic.

Buy a new probe...

Seriously? You would buy a new probe just to replace the detachable hook tip?

I would contact Rigol and see if they carry spares, they should only run a couple of bucks

Should we need to buy a new probe to get a new hook, then I would think it was madness.

Kind regards,

You can get cheap probes on DX, some may even have the same probe hook you need.

I wouldn't trust cheapass probes with mains voltages without having a really good look at their quality but
the probe hooks look quite similar to your picture

Best case you get two replacement hooks, Worst case you have two entire probes with hooks.

How long you use it? And this would often wear out?

I go to see it, and is this probe comaptible with DS1052E?
the details as follow:
- Material: plastic + copper
- SMD technology
- Probe bandwidth: 100MHz
- Attenuation ratio: 600V(DC+ACp-p)
- Input resistance: 10M ohm
- Cable length: 1.2m

In the world of probes, the Rigol ones, or any other probe comming with a cheap 50 MHz , 100 MHz oscilloscopes, are just cheap consumables

Any osilloscope probe is a consumable, but you only get spare parts for expensive brands. So yes, buy a new probe. And whatever killed your old, don't do it again. If it would have been an expensive probe you would now learn that spare parts for such a probe aren't cheap either.

I agree that you're unlikely to be able to buy spare hooks.  Just use that probe for "poking around" and buy another probe for hooking onto points.  I have several probes without hooks now as I'm sure most other people who've had a CRO for a while have.

i also screwed up the hook tip by soldering where its hooked (heat transfer). and i also got cheapi spare probes with hook, but the hook is not as good as the rigol's. if someone successful contacting rigol and getting spare from them, let me know. in the mean time, i'm thinking modding it (reflow the plastic) in case it become unusable (unhookable).

I have a set as shown on the DX link in the earlier post by PSI, they are not bad at all considering the price the hooks are stamped from sheet stainless rather than made from bent wire, and overall the quality is not that bad as for the exact characteristic of them I cannot say as I don't have the test equipment to check but they tune to give a nice flat square wave on the ten X and my scope appears to do what I need with them.

I bought some nice sturdy probes off eBay that came from Germany as I wanted a "second opinion" and stronger probes for playing with back end testing
