Reuters -> U.S.-based chip-tech group moving to Switzerland over trade curb fears

Main point :

"The nonprofit RISC-V Foundation (pronounced risk-five) wants to ensure that universities, governments and companies outside the United States can help develop its open-source technology, its Chief Executive Calista Redmond said in an interview with Reuters."

Well, moving to a more neutral country makes sense. Even if that's currently being a bit paranoid, any group, even non-profit ones, based in the US may suddenly have restrictions working with other parts of the world in case something goes wrong?

And BTW, are there laws that can protect "open source" against this kind of restrictions?

Well, it is!  Politics (neutrality etc.) aside, anyone looking at e.g. European copyright laws, immediately sees Switzerland has possibly the sanest ones in Europe.  And that's not a small thing, especially for a non-profit dealing with what is called "intellectual property" nowadays.
