You never know.  They may know the perp and feel like paying him a special visit.   ;D

If he is known to have participated in or witnessed a worse crime but there is insufficient proof, then stuff like this can be useful. Otherwise, nope. This is a crime of the kid's parents against humanity and a waste of police time.

Anyone that would steal a tip jar, I feel sorry for in a way. I'm sure there was all of 10 bucks in there. If 10 bucks means that much to you, your life sucks.

People like that should probably consider meditative self immolation.

It's not worth police time to go out and catch the guy just because of this.
But this sort of petty crime evidence is really helpful to start an investigation into someone police know about and think is doing other dodgy shit but don't have enough real proof to investigate them for.

It can also be useful in trying and catch a person saying something that incriminates them in another crime that police suspect they committed.
e.g. question them about this shop theft but craft the questions to try and make them admit they were in a location when another crime was committed.
That can then give them probably cause to start a more serious investigation.

More likely to happen, medical self immolation, if you know what I mean.
As in Richard Pryor? That was a sad story.

Rossmann did, I merely copied his video title. NYC is a tough place to live. If you own a car, you can expect to have door mirrors replaced often, since idiots go around at night smashing them out just for kicks.

I guess you’ve never worked retail or hospitality... shit like that is commonplace, nothing new.

From what I could see the shop was left unattended. Never leave valuable stuff unattended. If you leave dog shit unattended here someone will steal it.

Also never assume $10 of change isn’t valuable to someone. Perhaps he liked the jar too. When I was working at Homebase here in the UK during the summer holidays once, someone stole a pipe fitting worth around $2 because he was going to stick his dick in it. He even got off on telling us that when we bundled him.

And yes also tip jar?!? I never expect or ask for tips. Fucking skanks.

Bloody humans. Crazy all of them.

Let's keep Louis and Co. from hitting the sidewalk armed with cardboard signs  "Will Fix MacKnackered Logic Boards For Food"

Hey, with a bit of hexy New York luck, the robber may get mugged

And why the f0ck does an employee needs to be tipped, and thus having a tip jar, in a phone repair place?  Isn't he supposed to be doing his job at his best anyway?  Doesn't he have a payroll, and everything?
Or maybe he also perform lap dances, or somethin'?   :-//

It is my understanding that tipping in the USA is customary - certainly there is an expectation in many occupations.  The tip you leave is meant to indicate your satisfaction with the service given.  It is not strange to me that they have a "tip jar".  Could pay for the company Christmas party or some such.

Americans - please chime in.

A Canadian variant of this is where the poor or elderly don't quite have enough to buy something, the cashier will use it as a reserve and a visible good gesture on their behalf. It's a positive experience that wards-off the idea that money grubbers run the place, when small amounts of bills and loose change can be seen unprotected. It's practical psychology, but a cashless society may remove that touch. OK, that's my 2-cents! (take from it what you may..)

Tip jars are not uncommon in small repair places. Many times the proprietor might solve the customers problem on the spot for free or by just a little education that does not warrant writing it up and charging. The tip jar is a form of showing respect in this sort of scenario. We work in agricultural controls and it’s not uncommon for us to receive a box of fruit or bottle of wine when we go a favor for a customer.

I'd like the Geek Squad to have a leave-$5.00-to-punch-the-employee-in-the-face jar. They only hire the most arrogant condescending con artists that compulsively lie for no reason other than the practice.

I saw this clickbait topic subject, rushed to grab popcorn and began to read expecting to see Rossmann on the floor held under a gun point and 3 masked men taking away his Hakko soldering station and junk donor boards. Imagine my frustration when i saw the above.

Rossman’s entire marketing is based on being a drama queen. That’s what you get. Click bait.

Without the Hakko, he would then need a heavy upgrade from Pace.. (for greatly reduced get-away times!)

guess what guys
apple got robbed too
I highly doubt they will ever find back the roughly 1493 phones scammed from apple

https://www.npr.org/2019/04/05/710317470/two-students-allegedly-cheated-apple-out-of-nearly-900-000-in-fake-iphone-scheme (https://www.npr.org/2019/04/05/710317470/two-students-allegedly-cheated-apple-out-of-nearly-900-000-in-fake-iphone-scheme)
I know Apple has insurance against actual theft (like shoplifting), dunno if it applies to fraud. But even if Apple ends up never recovering a cent from that scammer, at least it's an amount that won't exactly hurt Apple a whole lot in the end.

That's assuming the 'story' is legit and not a publicity hoax   :-//

Either way, I can't envisage Apple staff on the streets flogging iPhones for food any time soon  ;D

Publicity hoax? What? Apple doesn't need to resort to illegal stunts (filing false police reports is highly illegal) to get press. Apple need only conduct business as usual to get crazy press, both good and bad. Where'd you get the idea that it's a hoax? NPR is not fake, and federal prosecution is no joke.

I'm just saying that Apple has enough going on that gets reported on so much that they don't need to invent fake crime sprees just to stay in the news. Suggesting as much is absolutely preposterous, not to mention more than just a liiiittle bit cray-cray...

And again, you do realize that NPR is a legitimate news outlet?

It's hard realize that at first glance, but if you watch his stuff long enough, that's kind of what it boils down to.
