Some Aliexpress sellers are warning they are closing down for New Year, I think on the 11th for about a week.  My guess in reality it is probably 2 weeks delay.

Trying to get all my electronic parts orders in by tonight.

So they're closed for a couple weeks, is that really worth worrying about? Surely you have other projects to work on?

Lol you got me worried.  I have not bought anything off there yet but was actually planing to trying it out, lot of interesting stuff on there.  I just hate that freaking modal popup for every single page so it always drives me off the site out of frustration.  I need to figure out a way to block that.  Noscript is not really an option as it's just going to make the rest of the site not work either. It's too bad you can't selectively block specific types of scripts instead of by domain.   I hate that so many sites have those now, but that one is worse because it comes back for each page load.

I was planning a PCB order with Elecrow but am now deferring it until after New Year.... but looking on the bright side the design might actually be correct by the time I submit it!

Always best to get your last orders in about 2 weeks before CNY at the latest to be sure it can make it out of the country before the annual migration starts!

I placed my order on January 30 trying to beat CNY and even then I felt like I was cutting it close.

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?

Chinese New Year is not a problem for me this year, because...

A couple of days ago I ordered something via Aliexpress. Go to checkout, Aliexpress says my credit card is expired.
It actually expires at the end of March, well over a month away. The bank say they won't issue a new card till the end of March.

I think what's happening here, is Aliexpress must want more than a month's card expiry margin, so cards don't expire between when goods are shipped, and when the buyer reports it has arrived - which is when the seller gets paid.

Great. So I can't buy anything via Aliexpress till the end of March.

Chinese people need their holidays. They work really hard the rest of the year.

I got caught with that while living in Dubai. Their banking systems processed the expiry at the start of the month and the Aussie bank at the end of the month.
Highly inconvenient when you don't know about it and have just taken your whole family out for an expensive meal to find you can't pay for it.

"Yes hello bank? My credit card stopped reading, no I didn't lose it, can I get a replacement?" Problem solved. :-+
