Hi All,

I dont post of the forum much but I thought this one might be important enough. I bought one of these kindle fire 7" tablet things for my kid and I got this safety notice through from amazon. Seems that its possible to stress the USB connector in such a way as its possible to short it to mains!!! Amazon sent me a recall notice but I kinda worry people with either not get these if they were sent as gifts or maybe they'll ignore them. As far as i'm aware this only affects the UK charger. Scary to think i let my 2 year old use this plugged in before i got the notice!

Here is a very very short side by side comparison video.

Nothing to do with USB or "shorting to mains", just sounds like the black cover may separate from the main white body when pulling on it, exposing the innards with their live parts. Bad aging glue or incorrect plastic welding is my guess...

As to CE it isn't a guarantee of much as it doesn't need independent testing.

Thanks for that.

Thing feels sold enough to me and I wasnt able to tear it apart easily. Maybe a specific batch affected?

Recalls are typically based on failure of a few units which may be a ridiculously low percentage of the total, but you just want to avoid any risk of further issues (or CYA  ::))

We just got a recall for a major part we use at work, 2 units have failed in a batch and the manufacturer just takes no chances and decided to replace the entire batch, even if the rest has been stressed more without showing issues and is probably just fine.
