Amazing how much more/better content you can produce when the goal isn't just a 42.5 min. commercial/advertisement delivery vehicle. For me this is why youtube has replaced cable.

The first is an old English film probably for their military just after WWII.

Here's how the gyroscope works. This is what I have always been wondering:

Did dave get sent a gyro out of a b(29?) by that guy who does terrible tear downs a few years back? Would be really cool to see that running. I think it runs on 400Hz 115VAC so that might be the hardest part of getting it to work. I was watching another youtube video where a guy was trying to make some sort of avionics work and he kept blowing up the parts and I remember writing in the comments that it was 400Hz and he had no idea that you can't use mains 50hz on it. On the peto tubes on the side of air planes say 400hz on them so that was the only way I know it was 400.  I'm guessing it's 400hz so they can make things lighter on the plane, back before everything was SMPS.

Maybe if this is above dave pay grade he could do a collaboration with someone who could get that running. I know a lot of people were waiting for another episode after the tear down.

400 Hz does indeed make transformers lighter.
And the filter capacitors would also be significantly smaller.

Why either/or? I don’t get it.

Everything has a place. IMO

Because normal TV is too dumbed down and doesn't interest me.

Here is all about the space shuttle engines at 0.003/1sec frame rate
