SATA optical caddy frustrations FIXED!

(1/1)

eti:
Hi. I thought I'd share a tip that not everyone will know. Around a year ago I bought an optical bay SSD caddy - a cheap one - for my HP ProBook 6460b, so I can use a second SSD. Now, nowhere AT ALL in the packaging did it mention needing to flick a switch, and the switch is barely visible, even so. This switch changes compatibility for different laptop brands... apparently... and there are different switched (some 2 pos, some 3 pos) on different caddies.

Anyway, here is the switch in mine - I didn't know it existed until I took the caddy apart! The black plastic and a dark recessed switch made it nigh-on INVISIBLE.

Here's the TINY brand compatibility switch (far left) that's mentioned nowhere - had to slide it down (opposite of what's pictured) and the caddy works flawlessly now. Before I did this, NOTHING Microsoft would shutdown or reboot - it would just freeze, and I was about to give up, and then my brain said "take the caddy apart and have a look"

Here's a video I found, too:
