Scanning 8mm movies
« on: January 21, 2017, 04:23:44 pm »
I have built an 8mm movie scanner, at present I am using a digital Ricoh camera but the recording time at high resolution is less than the reel time, this is irrespective of SD card size appears to be due to the cameras buffer. What I would like is a camera which can record straight to a computer. I was wondering if any one knows of such a beast It does not need to be full HD as the film quality is such that to high a resolution makes things worse.

Take a look at the USB cameras from http://www.mightexsystems.com/index.php?cPath=1

I've used several different models with good results over the years. They have an application that might be capable of saving continuous frames to disk. I've written code to talk to the cameras directly, so haven't investigated using their app for that purpose.

Take a look at their 752x480 S series camera with global shutter. It will do over 30 frames/second and costs $180.
