So, how much do you think the scrap from that TV and computer are worth?

I don't even know of anywhere locally that would buy the processor from me for the gold content, and I'm in Dallas.

The copper and aluminum are much easier.  Probably a couple pounds of copper wire.  I think current rates for insulated copper wire are about $0.35/pound (because of the low recovery amount, as the weight is a lot of insulation).  I believe cast aluminum to be about $0.40/pound.  I'd guess about 2 pounds of copper wire, and about a pound of aluminum (I think I'm being generous...), so a total of $1.10.  I'd say total time to collect items, take apart, and take materials to recycler of 20 minutes, assuming you do this regularly (much worse if you do it like she did!).  So, if you are interested in $3.30/hr, have at it.

Probably why so much electronic stuff gets scrapped in developing countries where $3.30 per hour is fantastic pay in that locality.

Its not always wrong to do it.

When using a wire cutter that has no spring (or its broken) I put my finger between the levers to open the jaws after cutting, to keep cutting wires in succession such as in an ATX PSU.

I also do it a lot with my crappy needle nose pliers which have a lousy spring that loves to bury into the rubber handles, becoming useless.

what a load of garbadge. I could have taken that TV apart in the same time the video lasted (without the outake time) and with one tool: The hammer, the holy grail of dismantling for scrap. If you can't get it open and apart with a hammer it won't be worth your time.

I tend to go for easy stuff and the mixed stuff like copper wire epoxied onto cores that I'll never get apart or tiny motors I give to the scrap dealer for free and he does me a good price on what I sell him in return.

If she is showing how to take a TV apart the discharge bit should have been shown for safety reasons, I'd love to see photoinduction do the same video, I'd probably prefer his method for once.

Yea she wowed over every little thing that we all know are there because we all know what is in a TV. I like the way she showed how to take it apart like every TV is identical.........so much ignorrance. This sort of trash should be removed from the internet in the name of preserving resources for serious stuff like the eevblog

Oh and she had to use a magnet to identify aluminium heat sink ? good god !, funny she has to go to the auction to get this stuff.
