Shipping to the United Kingdom - LCSC

Hi all!

I've just put my first order in for around £79 worth of components (with International Registered Mail at £7) at LCSC for delivery to the UK.

Whilst submitting my order at JLCPCB, I used the DDP option and of course VAT was calculated by default so this should be all fine. However, no such option existed at LCSC other than International Registered Mail that showed no requirement for a VAT number.

My question is, has anyone recently received their order to the UK from lCSC given the changes, should I expect the item to be delivered, returned or destroyed?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I placed an order in January which wasn't shipped until February (some parts on back order) and arrived here 9th March. Shipping was IRM and I didn't notice any problems.

I think LCSC and JLCPCB are different, albeit symbiotic, outfits. The shipping boxes are similar but not the same, so it's unsurprising the sales and stuff are, well, similar but different :)

I've had a reply back from LCSC Support, they have suggested all will be fine as I used the IRM option so no VAT number needs to be included.
Apparently the delivery should be dispatched in 2-3 days, delivery 7-14 days... I really hope its as soon as possible (certainly in less than a month) - project deadline approaching rapidly...

Thanks for the reply!

DDP does not mean you need to provide VAT number. DDP with VAT number is for business customers where goods are imported and sold by sellers local business entity, so buyer does not lose VAT needlessly.

My recollection is that DDP (which I think was only with DHL) was for duty pre-paid. That is, the buyer paid everything during ordering and wouldn't be troubled by demands for extra duty and/or tax. Not selecting that option meant that duty was paid on import (if they noticed, and/or it was over some small figure), so the buyer might have to cough up more on delivery.

However, that's changed now with Brexit and the EU deciding there is no escape from VAT anymore. Instead, at least for us in the UK, anything below about £130 is tax paid at the time of ordering, and anything over is tax paid on import. So nowadays DDP is a redundant option (and I'm pretty sure I no longer saw it as an option during ordering).

Of course, YMMV and our beloved overlords could change it all tomorrow. Again.
