Should Dave interview “Mr Carlton’s Lab”?
« on: November 22, 2022, 10:01:42 am »
Oh Dave PLEASE, PLEASE, I positively implore you, would you please 🙏 please 🙏 try and interview Paul Carlson, aka “Mr Carlson’s Lab”? He’s such an INCREDIBLE engineer, kind and patient, slow and thorough to the Nth degree++++++ and ethical to the end. Never mind knowledgeable and wise.

I understand my poll is heavily biased - with good reason. Only a dafty could vote “No”, and so that option doesn’t exist 😁

Cheers old bean.

But does he want to be interviewed? Paul is a pretty private guy.

I do remember in a few of Dave's past comments that he avoids Vacuum Tubes...
Not anything negative, it's just not his thing.
Though, such an interview might bridge two different worlds.
(Nothing against Mr. Carlson.  He knows his stuff and I watched all his videos...)

I would prefer Dave interviewing those new low subscribed count channels who demonstrate that they are in the game for real.
Example: Usagi Electric  https://www.youtube.com/@UsagiElectric

He has designed and built his own Micro-controller out of Vacuum tubes from scratch, restored a Centurion microcomputer and only has 32k subscribers.  Replicating digital electronics in tube form at least connects with Dave's modern ICs and Usagi's history and explanations in his videos have demonstrated he is there for good.

Mr Carlson already has over 300k subscribers and mainly focuses on repairing / restoring old tube radios.

Dave’s personal tastes are beside the point. A DJ plays to the crowd, not his personal record collection. This is an absurd reason to not interview someone, and besides, it’s merely speculation.

Well I’d have thought it would be obvious that he’d have to want to, since it’s not obligatory. 😉🤣

Be interesting to include him in one of those group chats if an interview was too personal.

I’m not a subscriber of his, and not terribly interested in tube audio/radio stuff, but have enjoyed the odd video that’s popped up on autoplay. He’s definitely got a gift for presenting/educating.

I believe I’ve heard Big Clive mention watching his videos too if that helps include him in the group

I think Paul designs switch mode power supplies for a living.  No need to talk about tubes.  He could even give Treez a few tips on what to avoid in his designs and issues with Chinese LED drivers.
