Side jobs

What are you side jobs that you do next to your regular 9-5 job?
Repair, freelance (if freelance, what kind), be as specific as possible.

What's a "regular 9-5"? :P

I have a few power supply projects running right now (medium power level, resonant, industrial, etc.), and a couple gadget things in the pipeline.  Freelance, EE, concentrating in analog, power and embedded.  Check my website for some articles, projects and calculators. :)

I renovate my house on the side.  It's a good contrast to sitting in my office during the day job.

I trade cryptocurrency for fun and profit.
I have a Youtube channel with ~7K subscribers.
I also occasionally do electronics consulting. Last thing I designed was a PCB for a mechanical keyboard.

I replace connectors and buttons on things that are worth enough to be economical to repair, and made in small enough quantities that they’re relatively simple to work on and are made up of universal parts.

EG a family of automotive service tools where the supplier doesn’t offer repairs and the stupid mini USB’s get broken off by ham fisted mechanics and replacing a broken tool costs thousands

A lot of the time engineers who have a decent side job making and selling things online try to maintain some level of professionalism/reputation.
What I mean is, they try to build up an industry reputation of quality that could get damaged if it got out that their products are actually made in a small garage on the weekends with a repurposed toaster oven :)

So you may find people are a bit reluctant to give you lots of specific details about successful side projects.

I have just posted this question, because I have met a lot of engineers who like to discuss their side jobs/hustles, or even hobbies. :)
Of course, I totally agree with your answer.

yeah, discussing side jobs with others in person is totally fine and fun/interesting.
Posting on a searchable forum is less so. Though usually ok as long as you never mention the product name, company name or website. As long as no one else guesses it and post them.

Because your side job went so well that you quit your main job?  That's my goal.
