all copper and nickel for electronics comes from the rainforest hurting the rainforest theirfore bad.
utter nonsense i say
... and you would be correct.
Take nickel and check the map
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/18/Nickel_%28mined%292.PNGNo rainforests in Russia. Actually the largest deposit is in former Finnish soil around the town of Nikel ( 1 guess where the name comes from ) ( 1 more guess why the Soviet Union demanded to redraw the border after War II ). While there are some deposits in rainforest areas they are not dominant and definitely not the only ones.
Similarly with copper. Again you only need to look at the map:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2d/2005copper_%28mined%29.PNGLargest producers combined are Chile and Peru. That copper comes from the high Andes and not from rainforest. ( I have seen photos of those mines since my brother has sold lots of Finnish mining equipment to S. American copper mines in the past). USA alone is a considerable producer and again not known for its jungles. Back in the day even our dear neighbor to the west, Sweden, used to be a major player. As witnessed by the name of their biggest mining company; Stora Kopparberg - the Great Copper Mountain. Again, rainforests are not to be seen around...
So, the level of SKY TV journalism is not in the sky but rather swept under the carpet, i.e. nonexistent.
