Yesterday I received some parts from DigiKey. One of the parts I ordered is a 4.096V voltage reference in a TO-92 package, the LM4040, originally made by National Semiconductors. As you probably know, National Semiconductors was acquired recently by TI. The device markings when the part was made by National Semiconductor are along the lines of "4040A1Z4.1". Now that the part is made by TI the markings says "NFD41I". After googling this mysterious code, it turned out that it is a SMD code (I think) for TI part number LM4040D41ILPR. Nowhere in the markings the "4040" is printed, although there seems to be plenty of space for printing in the TO-92 package. Anybody knows if this is this normal, given that the part I bought is not a SMD? From the datasheet it seems that TI is using this cryptic markings for all their LM4040 devices, SMD or not.
