A somewhat serious dissatisfaction with how my current place of employment is evolving (technical staff unappreciated, dwindling to insignificant numbers, an increasingly crippling loss of specialist technical knowledge bases, no succession planing or even a decent and obvious grasp of it importance as a precipice keeps getting closer and closer, ever more managers being hired; then more managers to manage managers - each typically shuffled around in short-term contract managerial roles, so have no real concept or care for long term strategies/ operational viability, just a pious and triumphalist fixation to achieving moronic short term "milestones", then organizing mutual masturbation sessions to self-congratulate, promoting "excellence", "greatness" and "cooperation" amongst staff by organizing kindergarten games such as an egg and spoon race competition (no joke - and this stroke of brilliance with the help of an external HR consultancy firm charging a mint), etc, etc) I am now seriously considering moving on.

So that has me reading the jobs classifieds, and pondering for a moment why this place doesn't has one. I'm sure just about anyone in the industry even remotely connected with the hiring of electronics technicians and engineering staff would know just how difficult it can be to find a suitably qualified applicant to fill a specialist role. Given the amount of traffic this place get by people in the industry perhaps even a paid jobs advertisement section would be a viable source of revenue? Wouldn't a place like this be a good place to start advertising for recruits?

While it wouldn't be a jobs or employment listing per se, what might be worth considering would be a sub-forum where people could post service requests and/or services offered.  For example, a while ago there was a forum member, flodins I believe, that had posted info about offering  one-off short run prototyping services. Another person was looking for people to do some assembly work.  Personally, I struggle with board designs. It just doesn't come naturally to me. So it would be kind of nice to have a place to say something along the lines of "I need somebody to layout a SMPS pcb. Please message me if you're interested"  I'm sure there are people here that can do in a day what takes me a week to accomplish. So there may be interest for something that isn't quite as formal as a jobs board or classified section.

Hey, GK I started thinking you might br working for a giant blue three letter acronym. But, then I saw the word "organizing" and realised you couldn't be.

It’s probably in my best interest not to mention who I currently work for. My opening post was mostly an exasperated rant after returning from a mission in which the data acquisition and time frame was of critical importance but I just couldn’t deliver due to one insurmountable and downright embarrassing equipment failure after another. In my mind the failures were just symptomatic of our continually stretched resources, which have me pondering the future of a core business I’ve been significantly involved in. With an effective tenure and other perks in some ways I’d be daft to consider leaving, but just sometimes I wonder if I have rocks in my head staying.

BTW, should you ever find yourself up the shit alone in the middle of a desert somewhere, try repeatedly clenching your fists as tightly as possible while screaming "FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK" with all your breath until the veins in your neck bulge. It IS amazingly therapeutic.

That does work wonders. Second best is screaming at the person concerned as loud as possible.

Helps having learned a little from drill instructors over the years in how to scream. Knew one guy who could be loud. Sitting in a chopper with all 3 engines running at idle, and him out back checking lights, and no problem hearing him with a helmet and earphones on. We used him as an intercom, as he could be used to call somebody nearly a kilometer away without using a phone.......
