So what is my qualification?
« on: March 06, 2018, 10:16:35 pm »
I recently had my Italian diploma examined by NARIC which here in the UK gives you a certificate of equivalence for foreign qualifications. However I don't really have a clue about the UK qualification system and it seems to be quite frankly a ramshackle mess of various systems that are roughly equivalent to each other probably all dreamt up by different private companies that our government has given our education system to. Attached is a copy of the text on the document. Can anyone tell me exactly what it actually means or are they just pitching about and putting in anything but nothing too specific in case it's their fault for some reason for saying something?

The system I thought the UK runs on starts at grade 1 and goes up to grade 8 for higher level education. The HNC I am studying being grade 5 a HND being grade 8 after which you are looking at a further year of study and a degree. I think GCSE is at level III but I am not sure.

Any help from those who understand the UK system would be greatly appreciated as I would like to show this to my boss who over the years has done nothing but make reference to my lack of qualifications so at least I have something to slap on his desk and tell him to pick the bones out of and who knows he might even give me some cash. I have not really bothered that much with my Italian qualification as I knew that my course of study was quite frankly a shambles but having seen the British standards of qualifications I quite frankly re-evaluate it much higher than I ever did.

The UK does indeed have a shambolic system of qualifications.
It's one country and there are at least two education systems, four legal systems.
Separatism.

The US is worse. If you want to practice law, for instance you need a qualification and licences for each state.

That reads to me as you having something broadly equivalent to an A level (Typically taken at about age 18 over here).

Not sure why you feel obliged to slam the US and show your ignorance of our law and history.

How is that related to Simon's question about the UK?  Why inject nationalism into such a straight forward question?

I agree. The certificate mentions level 3 and A-level, so it's probably equivalent.

Okay well I can only but slap it on his desk and let him make of it what he will.
