Newark and Canada

Hello fellow Canadians.

If I order something on canada.newark.com and it is shipped from the US, will there be taxes/tariffs due? Or is it shipped DDP like Digikey?

The part I want has Newark listed as the distributor in Canada, but according to Newark's customer support it's shipped from the US. They don't know if the shipper (UPS) will try to collect taxes/tariffs.

What is your experience ordering from canada.newark.com (and shipping to Canada)? Did UPS try to collect taxes/tariffs?

I saw the FAQ, but I don't get any delivery options other than UPS Ground. Is UPS Ground also DDP?

The part is just some aluminum rails for custom enclosures. All the Canadian distributors are out of stock except for Newark.

Do not worry, UPS will hit you with other stupid fees, i.e. fuel surcharge fee or residential delivery fee.

Whats the part #?
The second link I posted is saying ground is, but I have not personally received something from Newark via ground.
If you have time, you can always order it, then if it shows up and payment is expected (UPS should ask for payment on arrival, fedex will not) you can reject the shipment and ask newark for a refund.

I ordered anyway -- we'll see what happens.

Tax showed up, so that tells me there shouldn't be any tax for UPS to try to collect.

I have ordered from Newark a few times, never charged for tariffs/duty/brokerage or any of that nonsense. Probably charged GST and PST, but can't remember.

Arrived with no duties.

Call the courier and ask if there are outstanding fees/duties. Only after that you can sleep well. Otherwise not be surprised by a invoice say in 2-3 weeks.

I find duties can be hit and miss sometimes but if a site has a Canadian version and charges in Canadian dollars I've found I'm usually safe even if it ships from US.  I don't know if they somehow treat it as if it's still coming from Canada and the trip from US to Canada is considered as them ordering inventory or something, not sure.

With Ebay it's very hit and miss.  Had to pay like $600+ in duties once and got the bill months later.  That sucked.  It was for a wireless microphone for my church, we thought we were saving money by buying it off Ebay... yeah we saved money until that bill came in.   That was an oddball one though, normally the duties are charged at check out and are not in the 100's.
