All you can tell from that photo is that is a 42-pin PDIP.
Could be a microcontroller, or a CPU or memory, or whatever.
The label has a "house-number" on it which will mean nothing without the unpublished secret decoder ring.

Peel the label off. Otherwise you will likely get nowhere.
If you are lucky, maybe there will be an industry-standard part number visible.

With the brand name of the gear that it came out of, you might be slightly ahead in deciphering the "house-number".

Probably ROM of some sort. The sticker may be covering the UV window, or it could be mask ROM/OTP.

Very unlikely - It's a plastic package.

Very likely it is a OTP Eprom, which is combined along with some DRAM, probably 256M or such, into a SIMM package so that you can simply plug in the module to do firmware upgrades.  Uses a cheap commonly available SIMM socket on the mainboard ( and I guess the processor there is a 68000 series CPU as well) and footprint that is also an industry standard pinout with only a few extra control lines, normally used for communicating to the on SIMM identity, that provide the chip select and output enable for the EPROM.

Common on embedded boards, as it allows the manufacturer to provide a very easy to install upgrade, but this is still not easy to copy without some work, and is not as easy to pirate as a software firmware upgrade. I have some Tektronix Phasor printer boards with a few of these on them, providing on the one the main printer firmware and RAM, and a few more providing additional font ROM packages, complete with Adobe provided licenses as well printed on the label.

It's a DRAM, there's a parity chip next to it, my guess would be a 72 pin one.

Please find a DRAM in 42-pin DIP.

Looks like J lead (SOJ), not DIP. My best guess is 16 or 18 bit FPM/EDO DRAM. Really need to see the whole board.

That do you or would you like to see some more?

Oops, of course, it's SOJ, not DIP but then the chip in the OP's pic is also SOJ.
