Title: Soldering training
Post by: blueskull on May 25, 2019, 08:10:36 am
Do you guys think an IPC soldering training can help me in any ways?

----------------------------

Background:

1. I have good soldering skills. I can solder any package you can throw at me, down to 0201/0.35mm CSP, but I've never been introduced to proper IPC training, so basically I can get the jobs done, but not to an internationally accepted quality standard.

2. I'm moving from US to China, and there I may hire people, and I may have to train them to do soldering properly. I will not hire technicians, and I will only hire university grads, or maybe masters grads, so I expect the technician skill level to be not very good.

3. I work exclusively with lead free, ranging from SnBiAg, SAC305 to Sn100e.

4. I need to learn PCB laminate repair and underfill/conformal coating removal, which I have no experience.

It seems like IPC7721/7722 fit my needs, and I may go to an additional BGA module.

The question is, is this necessary? And if so, should I consider CIT over CIS?
