SOLUS heater debunk update

(1/2) > >>

cavac:
Seems the SOLUS heater (the one with the magic graphene woowoo) from Indiegogo has more than one problem.

According to the IGG comments section those devices explode on occasion, customer support is hard/impossible to reach and some people want to organize legal action against the company.

Dear All, for all those who have problems with exploded product from Koleda. Seen the none response from that company, lmack of aftersales support, I want to organize a legal action, to make sure that KOLEDA acts on its promises. Please let me know if you would want to join me or be informed on this legal action – send me a mail – michel@acni.be – Good luck!

My m2 also exploded and a replacement was promised. Now I’m unable to reach anyone in support. Will need to report to trading standards as this is obviously a very unsafe product.

AGH! My SOLUS+ M2 exploded! literally sent glass flying across the room. granted most of it stayed on the panel but I got hit in the forehead and it could have been so much worse! I hope this was only an issue for a small batch!

It just exploded and started to burn when turning it on after the Summer. It’s obvious that it has not passed any security or quality certification. Imagine letting it heating while you are not at home like they claim in the ads…

My 2nd Update on this heater: Yesterday the heater shattered into many tiny pieces – it was ON and thank god nobody was anywhere near the thing. I know the heater was ON since the app said it was on all day. The thing just shattered and left a pile of glass on the ground – the metal frame was still secure on the wall and there were 2 metal strips with lots of glass stuck on them – I assume these are the heating strips.
I had hung the heater on the wall and I’ve had it for almost 3 months.

If you turn it around and look at the label, it probably says something like "Designed by ElectroBOOM, made in China"

Wait, people are buying into fancy graphene heaters now?
What's wrong with nichrome!?  Hard to improve upon 100% efficiency, unless you build a heat pump!

Well, now that everything is "cloud", "blockchain" and "smart" woowoo anyway, people who want to show off how modern they are need, they something else, don't they? They don't understand the old and new buzzwords, but they understand that, so far, none of their facebook "friends" has anything using this "graphene technology thing whatever that is" so they want it first.

Nothing, really. Nichrome wire is a quite good and proven technology. Usually, the fan (technically, the fan bearing) in my space heaters dies long before the heating wires start to have problems.

Although i must say, for my low power heater experiments i prefer to work with insulated 33 Ohm/m carbon fiber heating wires. You know, the ones used for underfloor heating. Mostly, because those are way more compatible with 3D printed parts than red-hot Nichrome. But i got some old space heaters in my attic, waiting for a disassembly just for the Nichrome wires ;-)
