Source for datasheets

Hello EEVblog forum members,

I've recently built a new PC with a Gigabyte X570 UD motherboard. This motherboard's SuperIO chip is an ITE IT8688E and unfortunately the datasheet for this chip isn't easy to get a hold of.
The problem is that without a data sheet lm_sensors (a Linux utility to read system fan speed etc.) won't add this chip in their it87 driver (see this GitHub issue).

There is apparently a work around which allows the chip to be used by forcing the kernel to use a different chip's driver, but unfortunately some of the numbers seem off.

I was wondering if there are any good sources for these kind of datasheets that manufacturers are not really willing to give out?

Buy a million and sign some NDA's, but then you can't share the datasheet nor use it to make an open source driver..

Wait till someone reverse engineer it, or do it yourself..

And even if you had a datasheet, you dont have the code running in the SuperIO chip, so the datasheet is not all that usefull without the code, and the code is signed and encrypted so its also not easy to extract it from the BIOS binary/rom.

Get a job there and steal one

Nouveau developers complain that they are getting leaked internal NVIDIA documentation all the time which they are not allowed to look at if they don't want their independent driver effort to get in legal trouble.
