I've been going there regularly. I always get something useful out of attending but I can never predict what it will be. I'll look out for you Mike!

What about the National Electronics Week exhibitions Mike?  How do they compare?

http://www.new-expo.co.uk/newuk/

They run our local version too, coming up in March.

For the London one(s?) I've been to , pretty poor in comparison - very disappointing number of exhibitors. ISTR spending about an hour at Earl's court - Southern is an all-day job.

Last year it was absolutely heaving - they had to open more car parks & run buses to the venue.

I missed Engineering Design Show last year, so I might go to this one (with my TAH t-shirt, of course).

Yeah comparing the number of exhibitors was the first thing that struck me, so NEW does look really thin on the ground.

Pity we don't have such options way down south here, but I can see the worthiness of investing a day if I was in the UK.

I missed it last year as I went to Embedded World instead-definitely going this year though, but probably on the 12th. I always found stuff seemed to be packing up on the 13th and I don't like having to get there (out of bed) too early...
There always seems to be good exhibitors down there. Last time we actually found a second company in the UK who's making high quality PCBs & assembly, and that's harder and harder these days

I think Electronics Week alternates London/Birmingham, but there hasn't been a decent show in London for a long time.

It's a really good show, I go every year. I always learn of at least one cool thing that I didn't already know existed. A couple of years ago it was waterproof fans and PCBs made on heat dissipating aluminium substrates. Last year it was OLED displays that don't fade after they've been on for a while.

Really looking forward to this year's show, as Mike says it gets bigger and busier every year. Fortunately I only live a few miles from the venue... an early start is a must as the traffic gets horrendous.

i'd be interested in going in the same way i would go to Autosport even though i dont have any intention to build a race car. It's nice to just geek at the tech!

Shame its so far south ( ) because i dont have any practical need to be there i couldn't justify it, I'll just have to make do with a local radio rally!

There's usually an equivalent Northern Manufacturing Show later in the year - have a look on www.industry.co.uk

Did anyone make it to the show ?

I was thinking of going but the weather made it difficult for travel in parts of southern UK, mainly the roads :)

Went on Wednesday. Was quite happy with the event until the "tent" split and they had to evacuate everyone out. Obviously, everyone going home at the same time caused a massive traffic jam and it took about an hour just to get out of the site.

Bit disappointed about the show ending two hours early and missing some of the stands.

I went on Thurs - heard about the previous day - there's some video on Youtube

Whenever the wind ruffled the tent, all the exhibitors started looking up nervously!

I went on Wednesday-there was an emergency evacuation half way through! There were people in hi-vis running around with wood and impact drivers bracing the structure, and a growing puddle of water coming up through the floor! Good stuff on display though and a good show!

Not sure how the NEW show at the NEC compares but it's run alongside the Machining and Drives and Controls show. If you want to see some seriously big CAM machines as well as a bit of electronics it's the place to be.

I did, and it was a good show as usual, right up until the point the place threatened to come down and we all got kicked out to go and sit in the car park for an hour. What a f**king joke.
