Spinning Battery on Magnetic Stirrer
(1/2) > >>
graybeard:

I bought this IKA C-MAG HS 4 magnetic stirrer at an industrial auction.  When I got it home the motor was not working so I took it apart, cleaned it, and lubed the bushings.  When I put it back together it worked.

Out of curiosity I put a Rayovac AA battery on it and started it and turned it up to high.  The battery started spinning rapidly.

When I took as video of the spinning battery it appears to be spinning slowly.   However it is not.   The appearance of the slowly spinning battery is a result of the shutter rate of the video being close to the rotational rate of the battery.

I does look "cool."  So I decided to share it here.

Ever since the invention of cinema, audiences have become used to the retrograde artifact in the undersampled wagon wheels in cowboy movies.
Gregg:
That seems to be a fairly complex method of enhancing battery leakage  :-DD

I see that some Li cells do voltage jumps and realized that movement has a influence, I guess the liquid electrolyte need to wet all surfaces. This treatment might literally shake things up.

Seems to be a good way to damage the coating on your heater/stirrer plate and get corrosion in the future, assuming you use it for real work....
