Spring Cleaning - make things fit by resizing ESD bags

(1/2) > >>

I have bunches of "new in package" components when I needed one but bought bulk. When I order items from digikey, amazon, aliexpress, etc. they come in ESD bags that are either heat sealed in 3 or 4 sides.

But they are always too large for my parts drawers.

Decided today to bring them to my kitchen and use my food sealer to resize them smaller to fit.

Faster would be to just fold the bags.

It would have made a sad and funny youtube video. The only effective way to fold and keep them from doing the expanding dinosaur after the drawer closed was to staple them. I spent about an hour fighting the bags with rubber bands, paperclips, tape, etc.

In the end 10 seconds or less per bag.

Good idea using the sealer.
I recently did a similar cleanup on my parts and I had the same issue with the bags unfolding that caused all sorts of snags when stored in small drawers. In my case, the majority of parts were non ESD sensitive and therefore I arranged them in smaller ziplock transparent bags.

I use Clear Plastic Reclosable Zip Poly Bags, 2-mil Thick, 2 Inch x 3 Inch and No.1 Coin Envelopes 2.25x 3.5 (Brown Kraft) for non-ESD.

I would love tiny ESD safe ziplock ...
