Poor squirrel. He had probably been going around thinking; "Because I worked so hard all summer, my winter is going to be sooo relaxing!"

Wasn't me.  :-DD

Bet that reception was slowly degrading and they were wondering why.    :P  "why do we keep getting VSWR alarms there's not even any snow on it!"

Squirrel behavior is kind of interesting, I think. The falling price of video equipment makes it easier to observe wildlife up close. This person took a long video of this squirrel eating a handful of trail mix and it seems to me, trying to alert other squirrels to come help him or her eat the food before some other animal got it..

What do you think was happening?

One of my cats was going nuts climbing all around the computer and monitors trying to find the creature that was making the noise.   :-DD

Now we need cats guarding our transmission towers.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

In the initial shots, it loos like there was an "insert nut here" hole in the front, at half height. Did that poor squirrel have any way of getting them out again, or did the planning not extend that far out? ;-)

Obviously, that was all planned and implemented by a squirrel in Management, not Engineering.

Uhh, the video says woodpecker, not squirrel.  Makes more sense given the location of the hole.

Acorn Woodpeckers live in large groups in western oak woodlands. Their social lives are endlessly fascinating: they store thousands of acorns each year by jamming them into specially made holes in trees.

Bowerbirds are the artists of the bird world, and they are very much worth looking into.

The males build elaborate artistic constructions, trying to outdo one another, they have to be 'just right'.

They are VERY picky..

They do this to attract a mate and have sex.

Check them out, its just amazing how elaborate their bowers can be. Some bowerbirds are native to Australia.

Also, corvids, the crow family, are very very smart, as birds go.

There was an interesting story on the BBC a while back of a young girl who had befriended crows in her Seattle suburb and the crows would bring her  gifts.

(interestingly colored objects)  And she would feed them. They clearly were enamored of her.

They also found and returned her mothers camera lens cap to her when she lost it several blocks away.

Other people have also become friends with crows.

Actually, woodpeckers do that to attract mates. There is some metal flashing on my house that they pound on during mating season. And yes, I am not going to make a joke about proving pecker hardness.
