Standard dimensions of reels
« on: July 26, 2020, 09:05:36 pm »
Hello,

As far as I am aware there are 7" and 13" reels, but I'm trying to find any accurate dimensioning of the centre part of a reel. I've found this datasheet (http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1503681.pdf) from farnell, which would indicate an outer diameter of 20.2mm and an inner diameter of 13mm, but no indication of the dimensions of the driving 'spokes'. I'm guessing these must be standard dimensions for loaders to handle the reels from different manufacturers, but cannot appear to find what standards these are.

Any suggestions where to look?
Thank you.

I'm not sure what you are doing, but pick and place machines do not have to "drive the reel", so there are no spokes.  Just a rod with a flange on the end to keep the reel from falling off.  They usually have some kind of friction mechanism to keep the reel from spilling the tape onto the floor.  it just takes the slightest drag on the reel to prevent that.
