While this day is one that we mourn the loss of the inimitable Stephen Hawking, I will forever him as the brilliant and humourous mind that brought a whole lot of energy to the study of the universe. His involvement with The Big Bang Theory alone is something that I can never forget.
To have lived as long as he did with ALS was exceptional in itself, but to have worked so brilliantly for so long when bound by his physical limitations is staggeringly inspirational.
If he is sharing a glorious dawn with Carl Sagan, I'll bet he is cracking jokes like the one I heard in a recently aired program: Q. "What is a black hole?" A. "It's what you get in a black sock." It's corny, but it really works when he tells it.
The time to mourn his passing is today - then no more. From tomorrow, let us only think of all the things his life has given us - but Pi day will never be the same again.
