The man will be missed, but his memory, and his work, will live on forever*.

The world certainly lost one of its greatest minds today. I think it is safe to say he has obtained Immortality through his contributions to physics, but it is still sad to lose such a legend.

He was the one who sparked my interest in space, black holes and theoretical physics.  He will be missed.

Perhaps he’s enjoying the glorious dawn with Carl now.

While this day is one that we mourn the loss of the inimitable Stephen Hawking, I will forever him as the brilliant and humourous mind that brought a whole lot of energy to the study of the universe.  His involvement with The Big Bang Theory alone is something that I can never forget.

To have lived as long as he did with ALS was exceptional in itself, but to have worked so brilliantly for so long when bound by his physical limitations is staggeringly inspirational.

If he is sharing a glorious dawn with Carl Sagan, I'll bet he is cracking jokes like the one I heard in a recently aired program:  Q. "What is a black hole?"  A. "It's what you get in a black sock."  It's corny, but it really works when he tells it.

The time to mourn his passing is today - then no more.  From tomorrow, let us only think of all the things his life has given us - but Pi day will never be the same again.

If only he lived in a Time where people valued understanding of the universe more than idiotic trends and social engineering he may have been allowed to contributed so much more. STEM is the only way forward.

If he had parted just a few months earlier, Musk could have seated him in the Tesla, and changed target destination to the nearest black hole !
I'm sure he would have loved that .. it would have been an awesome double event, greatest in our history. imo
Hello <tap> <tap> .. is this thing on?

Hah, now that thought occurred to me as well, I suspect it might have appealed to him.

Hawking was a brilliant thinker and human, it's a great loss and a very sad day.

if i was him i would have asked for my remains to make a small one-way trip to our nearest star

Stephen Hawking sings Monty Python's Galaxy song:

“Chaos is found in greatest abundance wherever order is being sought. It always defeats order, because it is better organized.”            - Terry Pratchett -

One of the most memorable quotes of him is still : "For millions of years mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination: we learned to talk" I heard it for the first time when I was listening to a Pink Floyd song. This quote sums up everything, including science. As a kid I was already fascinated by him, he will be missed.

As a real physicist, he passed away on Pi-day.

RIP Stephen

"We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special."
Stephen Hawking

He was often seen trundling around the streets of Cambridge, he will be missed.

Somewhere in heaven God sits sulking on his throne.
St Peter asks him what's wrong.
God answers : we should never have let Stephen Hawking in here. He's only been here an hour and has already mathematically proven, to my face, that i don't exist ...

Considering he was only expected to live 2 more years when diagnosed 55 years ago, he lived a long and productive life!

I haven't lived for long enough in this world and I'm wondering if they ever met or how many times they met face to face talking about the universe.

RIP Stephen Hawking. He'll live on in our memories.

While having the greatest respect for Stephen Hawking and his enormous contribution to physics and science...

I can't help wondering if he was finally drawn to that 'bright white light ', or perhaps he was expecting a 'black hole' ?
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.

If it was a black hole, then expect to see him again as Hawking radiation.
