If you want a 30 minute video of a girl soldering stuff, here you go:

And talking about "sexy female engineers"…

(Warning! Full image size - 3 megabytes).
The full image is even in PNG, for the videofools who can't stand even the slightest of compression artifacts blocking their view.

I wonder if that bikini is ESD safe. Probably doesn't matter considering neither Naomi Wu nor Sarah Petkus need one to maintain their dominance in that area.

I'm sorry - that video title is a lie - that was not relaxing in any way, shape, or form.  My jaw hurts from clenching it while I watched.  Good on her for her interest in electronics, that's awesome, but please, watch those old Pace soldering videos!

I heard statistically girls are better than boys for soldering, due to their gentle touch...  :-//

I'd hate to see the average guy soldering.

The fairer sex is said to have better fine motor skills, so they'd naturally be more adept at detailed work like soldering.  That said, I don't know if she was using crappy solder that didn't have enough flux or the correct flux, had the iron too cool, or what, but it was painful to watch those joints not wetting very well, and the wire lap joints - ai-yi-yi!  I kept thinking "Wipe the iron tip!!!"; it looked pretty crusty through a lot of the video.

I spot several others in that...

what is he doing with that pen? NVM that is the other probe (the wire looks like a pen clip), but it's still not touching or even near anything.

Don't put optical mice on solid color surfaces, it hinders the image sensor causing poor response.

Well that's true, but as always, don't mix statistics and individual samples. A given woman may have very poor fine motor skills. Not all are good. Just a numbers problem.

To be fair, that's the impression I have when watching many, or maybe even most videos showing people soldering, be it men or women. I don't know if it's just the fact that we're passively watching and thus, more prone to judging, or if it's a fact that actually most people suck at soldering and are much worse at it than they think. I'd tend to think it's the latter.

I'm not sure if this was posted before... but I am assuming this person is trying to remove a capacitor, with a smoldering soldering iron. How are you supposed to be accessing the PCB leads/solder itself from this side of the board, under the cap? Don't you usually hit the joint from the back side of the board while you wick and gently pull on the cap from the opposite side?

That picture might make a bit of sense if it was removing a relatively large SMD, where you take a big blob of solder and put it on both pads at once; but those tweezers are not ideal for the task.

Doesn't matter on any halfway decent modern mouse. Heck, Logitech has made mice for years that even work on glass and mirrors.

Modern optical mice are quite high res and basically use the shadows thrown by dust and surface texture to detect movement. And don’t forget that different optical mice use different wavelengths of light sources (some red, some blue, some IR), meaning that a non-solid color surface might be solid in the wavelength in use, even if it’s not to the naked eye!

Oh yes, she'll go far.

She knows the hot end of a soldering iron, has the basics of ESD (bare arms and no synthetics, as far as I can see) and best of all, even though some sexist **** has stolen her solder, she can still smile about it!  :-+
