Actually, a stethascope can come in handy to diagnose mechanical issues with hard drives, fans, or anything else with moving parts that could have bearing wear or whatnot.

I prefer to use a long screwdriver with my thumb pressed on the handle end, and put the knuckle of my thumb on my ear, pressing against that little flap to close the ear canal. Works really well. ;)

Usually you want a mechanics stethoscope. Similar to a screwdriver but little more sensitive.

The lightbulb was a distraction from the real fail - I/O shield of some wrong motherboard version was used :--

She doesn't seem clueless, how do you assume this from the picture? Insulting!
Simple, she brought screwdriver to a toolless rack :D

Try removing that filler plate without a tool.

Oh and the titles they give to these images...  :wtf:  ??? For example, look at this one:

https://www.123rf.com/photo_82601848_young-sexy-woman-in-the-data-center-server-room-didn-t-know-what-to-do.html

Yes, it's "Young sexy woman in the data center server room didn't know what to do".  :-DD  She doesn't seem clueless, how do you assume this from the picture? Insulting!  :-DD

Maybe that's not a function dial, but rather it's the world's first wind-up clockwork multimeter. :D

I don't get it. Yes I understand it may have a use case but seriously, why complicate the situation with a mechanical system that is prone to breakage and adds weight and bulk to the item? I mean, how often are you changing batteries in your multimeter? I don't think I change mine once every 5 years even? Am I special or did I miss something? I get a hand crank for a flashlight... you drop it in an emergency toolbox and never worry about it again. But a multimeter, I'm not sure it is worth it.

It's not hard to find a solar panel more than 5 years old that still works great.

I would get it if it had the option to also output the generator voltage on the leads... then you could also try to power the item during the Zombie apocalypse.   :-DD

Unless it's the Revolution universe where there's evil nanites everywhere that consume all electrical charge for themselves unless you have the "magic devices" to turn them off. ::) ;D (which of course all makes no sense and also getting rid of lightning that causes natural forest fires would simply increase the collapse of the environment till there was nothing left but nanites and rocks).

You can also just use normal rechargeable batteries in your multimeter or make one like Kasyan did.

As an aside, that meter does do one thing that I'm surprised isn't common (no pun intended): different color jacks for the A and mA jacks. (Unfortunately, they didn't do the obvious thing of matching the jack color to the knob position label: they use yellow for all the current ranges, instead of yellow for A and green for µA and mA!)

I mean, I understand the logic of matching the jack color to the lead color as essentially all meters do, but there would be some logic in using additional colors.

This just made me realize... I don't think anyone makes a solar powered multimeter (with fake solar cell of course). I think someone should start a kickstarter.  >:D

Then you won't have a voltage to measure in the first place.
Not a concern! When apocalypse comes having a multimeter will be the least of your worries.  >:D

Photoshopped or not, that multimeter is famous, it appears in many stock photos as if one studio bought it.

And speaking of photoshopped multimeters...

I guess the reading should be OL. EDIT: Or 0.00 A, considering that the range switch is in the A position.

Right, when the apocalypse comes you will want something that shoots LEAD rather than measuring LED. You might also be hacking everything in site, so a multimeter would come in handy, but then again so would an energy source. Unless, of course, you are running purely on petrol like Mad Max with no generators.  :-DD
