ISP have been voluntarily blocking child porn sites (and maybe some other types) for many years now, so nothing new there really.
It's not the RC content that was proposed, so that good. But still just as a retarded idea as it always has been.
Why the ACMA are touching child porn sites is beyond me. It's a matter for the federal police if anything, not that anything is ever hosted here anyway, so that's just as stupid really.
I say keep them open and the cops can then track and catch the bastards like they are supposed to.

Dave.

Yes This is pretty scary! Totally ineffective and the first step in censoring the internet per se. The web is a global communications network not regulated by anyone and this scares governments who like to be in control. I seem to remember that in the early days of the internet the US and others got together to try and monitor/regulate internet traffic but were fought off by pressure groups et al. China does a pretty good job of containing the web within it's boundary but only with the assistance of the likes of google. What next? Banning all sites that disagree with the governments line? Assess to only government approved sites? Once you start down this road it is very difficult to stop and very easy for governments to justify. Just banning such sites is laughable, they need closing down but this would involve cooperation and a great deal of effort... Go figure!

Is this usefull ?  Not at all, but who cares, let's some idiots be happy.
I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter ...
I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me.

There is a question about where the links are coming from and I'd like to know the answer to that ?

Wow, that isn't even some basic DNS/IP filtering, you need to have deep packet inspection to do that, checking every request to google and changing the URL (or cookies, not sure what they use for that).

Good talk about this:

what I never understand is why it is supposed to be so hard to get the people that run these websites and shut them down. Usually it is supposed to be because they host in far away countries and can't be touched by local law. Well flipping hell, if all of the nations of the world can decided together to go get gedafi in as matter of days I'm sure they can collaborate on illegal and unwanted stuff on the net

then their is a question who own it which is anybody with ip address
i guess the internet is strange like that.

one thing to note though censorship doesn't work when you can just route round it
