Phillips 22 Year Lifetime LED Bulb
« on: January 03, 2014, 11:55:23 pm »
Greetings EEVBees:

--See the below link, for a story about the new Phillips LED bulb.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2533109/New-flat-light-bulb-lasts-22-YEARS-bright-traditional-60W-one-save-80.html

--I think I might just get a couple of these. The payback time should be 2 to 3 years compared to CCFL, and they should save money on AC during the warm season here in Florida.

Not sure what's up with the title... it looks to be ~£80 in energy savings over the 22 lifespan of the bulb.  For a second I thought Phillips were going to put an 80yr warranty on their LED bulbs.

Still looks like a good product.
Please hit my ignorance with a big stick.

A bulb is estimated to last for 22.8 years if used for for 2.7 hrs every day, with the lifetime of a lamp said to be 25,000 hours.

..and I'm sure there's another bit there saying as long as the lamp is fitted in the upright position like in the pictures, so that hot air will flow from the base of the lamp to the ceiling.

translation.. they used 125-130c capacitors inside with about 2000-4000@130c rating, and the electronics inside will probably run at around 70c .... hence the 25k hours rating.

This channel : https://www.youtube.com/user/electronupdate/videos  has reviews of lots of led lamps available in US and Phillips are indeed some of the better ones, using good ICs that don't cause a lot of flicker.
