I have somewhere photo of drill bits that my dad bought and used exactly once because they ended up bent in a 90 degrees angle. That "HSS" steel was not hardened at all.

I bought a T-handle screwdriver at Auchan supermarket... Yes, I know :palm:
The handle was an empty shell made of thin plastic and it cracked and fell apart on first use.

A Gallium allen key would be a disaster in more ways that just that...
Gallium likes to break up the structure of solid metals, particularly aluminium but also steel. The screw head would disintegrate over time if traces of the gallium remained in contact with it.

I wonder if the chinesium bolts have a high degree of gallium in them? It would explain their need to round or snap just as you look at them.

Jokes aside, I really doubt they would bother using gallium for cheap stuff. My little finger is telling me that they may rather be using high percentages of lead and tin to lower costs. Maybe!

Many years ago, I lost my ancient Oz made centrepunch.
Muttering imprecations, I "tore the place apart", but could not find it.
I had to go to the city on Saturday morning anyway, so while I was there, I dived into a fancy tool shop.
The only centrepunch they had on display was made in the UK, & was a recent recipient of the "Duke of Edinburgh's Export Award".
It was a rather pretentious device, with a Teflon outer sheath to protect the fingers from transmitted shock when the punch was hit with a hammer.
It was a bit costly, but it was there & sounded good, so I bought it.
I then set out to do the job I had started upon, but alas, when I hit the top of the punch there was a "clanging" sound, & the tip disintegrated.
I was sorely disappointed, but still needed a centrepunch, so in the somewhat forlorn hope that the local hardware store might still be open, went there.
It was open, & for a lot less than the "Duke's" magic device, they sold me an Oz made unit which was one of about a dozen sitting loose in a drawer, with each one wrapped in a piece of oiled paper.
It lasted for about 10 years, until it, too, disappeared.

I think we can all concede there are products you can get from China that are very good. Finding a reliable source of such products is the challenge.

People would joke about the screws of Japanese motorcycles as being crap. Until I found out they make their cross head screws to a different spec than the screw drivers I buy in the UK, now I own a JIS screw drivers from Vessel and they just work.

I have spent years using crap punches so last year I went and bought 2 Starrett auto punches and they are much better than the ones you get in bit sets that are there just as another item in the kit. I did buy a no-brand automatic one on Amazon and it failed when I needed it for a job. I have been making good use of the local autojumble to pick up random tools that maybe handy in the future.

You are indeed saying that stuff from China falls into that category - you have explicitly said it originates from China. That's very different from saying there is crap that comes from China (amongst other places) and crap that is so typically Chinese you name it after the place (even when it comes from elsewhere).

Well obviously there's quality stuff made in China. Otherwise they wouldn't safely drive cars, take planes, get surgery, go to space, and the list is long.
Well all know they tend to keep the quality stuff to themselves and export crap (with some exceptions, but the principle is that), that's just how it works. And they're not necessarily the ones to blame here. They're just taking advantage of it.
Western countries do similar things when exporting to some poor/emerging countries. It's like China is taking us as the poor ones. That's kinda funny. No wonder things are a bit tense.

I would call it political, not racist.
western companies do it when they know the goods they sell cannot possibly turn a profit as is in developing countries when the requirement for non developing countries is high. It's still usually at least usable, but there is deception involved. (you can argue the profit margin they want in general is too high though).
