No joke there. We had a product that used 1.5" by .125 neos and I snapped my fingers in them a few times. fortunately they would shatter if they were moving fast enough but a few times I got nasty blood blisters from the instances where they did not shatter and pinched me.

Easy to put off just how dangerous they really can be. Even hard drive magnets will pinch you hard enough to leave a mark, I can confirm. :P

In grad school, we had to remove the magnets from a VacIon pump to install a heater. Luckily, the manual for the heater had explicit instructions (involving 2x4 lumber cut to short lengths) to avoid injury when removing the permanent magnet slabs.
