Supply shortage of 32.768kHz crystals?
« on: December 17, 2020, 02:39:46 am »
I just received word from one of our Chinese suppliers (BLE beacon manufacturer) that they are having issues sourcing 32.768kHz crystals and don't anticipate to have any in stock till June :wtf: A quick google search only turns up news about a fire at an AKM factory in Japan in October impacting the supply of TCXOs and Digikey/Mouser are still well stocked. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I don't see any shortage in general. Unless you want want a particular part number and do not accept any substitutes, I call that bullshit.

I just sent them links to several hundreds of thousands of crystals that are direct replacements for the one they are using from LCSC, Digikey and Mouser. They seemed surprised, not quite sure what is going on there...

Maybe they mean shortage of that particular crystal and aren't clued up enough to swap it for another part without involving their engineering department? (Which if they are just a CEM they may not have...)
