Technical resource for compatible footprint names

Is there a technical resource for compatible footprint names.

Like for example, if I'm replacing a part that is SOT-723 and I want to know what other footprint name exist that might be interchangeable with SOT-723. Or even just parts that are "probably compatible but may need checking". etc

Is this pinout wise or physical package wise? Either way the best advice I can offer is to start digging yourself and saving anything that might be relevant in the future
