Why hasn't Dave reviewed one yet???

They haven't offered me one for review.

I love it how half the document is pushing the (deliberate) lack of serial decode on Agilent, and then they don't mention that it's optional on the Tek!
And they push that the Tek had 16 digital channel instead of 8. But why you'd even want 16 channels on a 480x234 screen is beyond me!
And IIRC Tek have had to slash their prices recently to compete with Agilent (which is now approaching 2 years old), and even then they are still getting killed.
It's not a bad scope I'm sure, and it has some advantages over the Agilent, but from what I hear they are having a hard time pushing them.

Dave.

Serial trigger is really nothing special, you can't even use it if you want to trigger on more complicated serial patterns. I use a separate MCU to read and trigger on serial data patterns since these scope internal ones only trigger on one byte of data. This also saves you on the channel usage since you are using the ext trigger port.

Well, would you recommend me buying Tek DPO2012B for hobby use? It's cheaper than DSOX2012A in Czech Republic... comparison
The Tek has more memory (1MB per channel) and 5-year warranty. Then, they call it "The most powerful scope you can buy for $1,290." http://www.tektronixoverachiever.com/ But can you take their web seriously?? Isn't that just a silly advert?

The Wave Inspector feature might be useful... But on the other hand, I know well, that DPO2012B is designed in 2008, has a small screen and the waveform update rate is not too good.
What are user's experiences and reccomendations?

That's really slick, going to have to use that one sometime in the future.

I guess the point is that the serial decode is available if desired.  The 16 ch digital is often used by defining a parallel bus, and displaying the bus value rather than the individual bits.  Yes, the cpscreen is smaller with lower resolution, and a lower update rate.  But the wave inspector is really nice.  It is a pretty sweet little scope. It's been a very popular scope for Tek.

Tek DPO is better according to this pdf: http://www.tek.com/document/competitive/mso-dpo2000b-series-vs-agilent-mso-dso2000-x-series-fact-sheet
Well, in fact, the document was created by Tektronix staff.  ^-^ ;D :-//

Im not a tek fanboy. I got an agilent msox2k, and a lot cheaper tek tds. The agilent cant measure pulsewidth precisely, the tds is spot on. Wtf agilent?!

One potential issue is that many scopes will make measurements using the displayed waveform points, not the full record of sample points.  The decimation of sample points into display points can cause problems with measurements.  Others make their measurements on the sampled waveform data, regardless of the amount of decimation to display the waveform.  The latter causes the scope to be a little slower because it processes more points, but it gives more accurate results. The Tek DPO/MSO fall into the latter category.

That's exactly the point! I am enjoying the fast update of the agilent, but sometimes i would need the precision instead. And that is where my tek havent let me down yet.
