Tektronix SW download bullshit

Went to Tektronix site to download new firmware to our scope so it can handle more then 1Gig USB sticks.
After registration I got stuck on this bullshit. I ask my self WHY??? :horse:

How is it Tek fault that US laws are ass backwards?

Then could (should?) But you can move, and its about export of technology, i think, and hen  they need to check that for each download? Nevertheless cumbersome.

Some Tektronix oscilloscopes are covered under US export laws (ITAR?) because of their performance and military applications.  I have read that this is the reason their real time spectrum analyzers and MDOs have update rates limited in firmware unless you are approved by the government.

TI.com also have restrictions to software download. Every time, I have to fill up a questionnaire that boils down to "I comply to export laws".
But once I click the OK button, it immediately gets me to download page and emails the URL.

So, I believe it is the same law, maybe each company chose differently how to implement the controls?

Depends on how different lawyers read the same text, I guess. And also how much risk they are willing to accept in case if reading is wrong.
