Tektronix U800 24xx series
« on: March 19, 2012, 04:39:29 am »
Hey everyone! I was able to score 3 parts TEK 2465A scopes today for next to nothing. 2 are missing the CRT and the one that is there is very weak. That being said....I know how much people cherish these scopes (As do I...own 3 of them) I would offer for free one of U800 I have if anyone is truely missing their scope being operational. Just PM me and I can pack it properly and send it to you in the proper packaging. I only have one so first come first serv!

Question to any TEK 465 users. How would you compare the trace sharpness on those compared to the 2465a? I remember reading an article about a compromise on these newer scopes which produced a slightly less defined trace. I have the possibility to get one with original cart from the same place I got the donor scopes but it doesn't fire up. It is in almost mint shape so I was inspired by the 465 teardown on here and would love to restore it. I am totally obsessed with Tektronix these days. The company was and is responsible for so many innovative products!

Yeah, I'm curious too, owner of both Tek 4xx and 24xx series share your experience about this please.

I have a 465 and a 2445A. I'm not really sure if the 2445A has the same CRT as a 2465. When carefully adjusted (brightness, focus, astig), both scopes will produce nice sharp traces. (See photos.) The 2445A might be just a bit better to my eye, but not by much.  I can't remember using one of the scopes that have a reputation for ultra-sharp traces (5xx series?) so I don't really have a benchmark for how these units I have compare in that regard.

Thank you for the pics! I do believe it is the same CRT as the 2465. The 2445 does actually look a little sharper. I think I may still grab the 465 though. Something I am really digging about that scope. And really wanting that cart too! Oh yes. The 500 series. I myself have never tried one either. Thanks again for the reference pics...I really appreciate it!

You're welcome, no problem.  And by all means get the 465 + cart! :)

I had a 465 for a good few years in the back of my car when I was a service engineer.Built like a tank and a joy to use (and yes it had a nice sharp trace :)) Got rid of it in a clear out and have regretted it ever since,  :'(. Would love another one but have 2 other scopes that do all I need so not really on the cards, Still a nice scope though 8).

I would agree, the 2465A that I have is slightly sharper than the 465B.  But, the 465B screen is slightly larger.  Neither of them can match the sharpness of the 485 and the 2467 though - although the screen sizes of these latter two are smaller than the 2465.

I have noticed that when you use the 485. There almost seems to be a 3 dimensional quality to the display as well. I have checked them on Ebay and there is not many of them. The ones that are go for a pretty penny. By the way Alan I love all of your videos and have sent your youtube links to many people that I talk to who are just getting into electronics and want to understand their scopes in more detail. Brilliant! They are also one of the big reasons I am constantly lusting over Tek scopes!
