Surface mount mains blade terminals
« on: September 24, 2016, 12:44:58 am »
I am trying to find SMD blade terminals for mains power, similar to the ones shown in the attached example. They need to be polarized male blade terminals for U.S. 120V 10A outlets. The closest I have found are Heyco part numbers 5200 and 5201 from mouser. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it!

Is it possible to switch to a through hole part? That's probably a lot more common and available, and will be more structurally sound than smd.

I always thought surface mount connectors were a bad idea, but in that diagram I guess the plate with the screws relieves the stress on the connector blade solder joints.

It would somewhat but not entirely, and I really hope those screws are sleeved because they come awfully close to the mains connections from what I can tell.

The actual risk is minimal unless you have a metal outlet cover, but I still don't like it.

I agree that a through hole option would be better but there's a form factor issue preventing it, stress relief would be from molded plastic. I think custom might be the best solution in this case unless anyone has an off the shelf option. Thanks for everyones opinions.
