It appears that this whole alleged privacy issue with Tesla cars was largely inflated by media outlets, and Tesla has replied.
They do not gather any user data (including from cameras) unless the user explicitely allows it via application settings, and apparently the user agreement is rather clear.
They also do not gather any data from cameras *inside* the cars, but only the outside ones, if you allow it, contrary to what has been said.
Now to what extent Tesla does respect users' privacy settings, I don't know. At least there's an option to opt out. Is there one with all other brands of EVs having telemetry? I don't know.
