Texas Instruments XDS200 USB Debug Probe
« on: February 28, 2024, 04:11:32 pm »
Hi
I bought this device from RS in the UK believing it was a TI part. I have hardly used it and it has failed during a firmware probe check. So now I am in the position of having a bricked XDS200. RS wont help me as its just over a year old. The actual manufacture is Blackhawk-Dsp / Corelis and they are blanking me. And because I am retired (no company clout anymore) I cannot contact Texas Instruments even via E2E. Its a TI reference design.
I am at a loss what to do. Just proves that RS are box shifters and quite honestly I wish I had bought from AliExpress
Any suggestions?

Nice suggestion but the serial number is logged.
I really cannot understand how RS get away with huge mark ups yet provide zilch technical support. They should have a workshop and the ability to re flash kit as a minimum.
Anyone else feel powerless being outwith a corporate structure?

RS logs the serial numbers when they sell them? That would be a surprise.

Can the case be swapped over without breaking any seals.

As part of my support request to RS the serial number was logged. All that I am asking of RS is to put pressure on Blackhawk DSP for a remedy but they dont want to know

Yes but you'd be opening a new case for the new probe, which would have no SN associated with it.

Anyway, you can pursue the legal avenue but it might be more work and take longer: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/return-faulty-goods/

If you have another XDS JTAG debug probe, you can try to re-flash it by following the procedure shown in the URL below - despite it mentions the onboard/embedded Debug Probes, it works for the standalone probe as well.

https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/xdsdebugprobes/emu_xds200.html#re-flash-the-firmware-of-onboard-xds200-units-

You will have to open your probe for that to work.

Its beyond reflashing via USB. I have opened the device including the seals.  Its disappointing to find a completely non standard JTAG ? connector. Its a AM1802 inside. Because if I knew the pinout I could use another emulator and reflash. The problems all began when I discovered it didnt work via a usb hub so I was using TI software to probe it. My last resort would be taking a guess on the JTAG pins.

Read all the links on the reference I sent. One of them has the pinout of the edge connector used by the XDS200's PCB (IIRC), which is similar to the Mezzanine card used in some of the EVMs.

Hi
appreciate the links but that is for another device. I have the TMDSEMU200-U which has a 16 way samtec connector nothing like any JTAG I have seen before.
I now have a chink of light I have managed to open a support case with TI so hopefully that will bear fruit. That post reflects
on the hub difficulties that I experienced. It is certainly not fit for purpose and and that price a scam.
Thanks and regards

Ok, if you see a connector inside, it is probably the cTI 20-pin connector, a ~15 year old standard for TI processors.

Its pinout (and several others that comprise the TI and ARM JTAG connectors) is shown at:

Hi
Its certainly not a standard JTAG connector as I have all the adapters for Segger /TI / ARM / SWD and they are 10w 20w and 14w whereas this is a 16w
