Title: That's nice button
Post by: shane_95 on July 13, 2012, 09:38:16 am
If you have watched the show Mrs Browns Boys, you should get her that's nice joke.

I would like to make a device where I can press a button an it will say "that's nice". My question is, what things should i google? Or is there device on the net I can mod/hack to do the same thing?

For the people why don't know the the "that's nice" joke here is a video

Something based on a chip similar to this will do the trick.

Any arduino will do it. You just need to store it in a pwm form and then bit blast the audio to a speaker. Only thing is that you wont get much more then a few words in memory.

The "thats nice" bit plays out here in the American south on a regular basis...a culture rooted in civility-directly-linked-to-the-threat-of-profound-violence-if-insult-is-taken.

Less regionally in the US, the office supply chain Staples had the Easy Button ad campaign, resulting in this real-world product that they sold for about $5:

I have one around here someplace...never got around to hacking it, though.

Go to a greeting card store and get a recordable birthday card. The quality isn't perfect but if you do a good job with the recording it's more than acceptable.

Do they actually drop the F-bomb on BBC broadcast TV ?

im not to sure, but i think they do, because they do here in australia, and they have a live audience for the recording. If they dont say the F-word on the BBC, they are missing out on a lot of good jokes

Well, maybe on a cable or direct sat programming, but you'd never hear that word over broadcast televison here in the states. I'm surprised with what I do hear compared to when I was a kid. You'll hear SOB, pissed off and words such, but never F- or you'll hear crap, but never sh*t. Worse yet, they not only hold the network responsible, but if someone at the local broadcast level misses it on delay and it's not bleeped outm, they get fined too. Shame really. You can step outside your door and get shot for no reason, you can drop dead from not having access to medical care or starve to death, but you'll never get F**Ked or see someone F**ked on broadcast TV. Aren't the states wonderful?

And no sex, or even a mention of it, or the naked body, on broadcast television. On cable everything goes.

Any channel which doesn't permit swearing must miss out on the brilliant "The Thick of It".
