So they lose interest. |

--- Quote from: james_s on January 29, 2020, 06:18:35 pm ---I don't know about falling in love, but I do remember back in my 20s I invited a Russian guy I worked with to a house party I was going to and several of the girls there were swooning over his accent getting him to say stuff in his native language. Had I know he'd be so popular with the girls there I might not have invited him. :D --- End quote --- And how many lasting relationships came from it? No need to answer ;) It's all fun and giggles, maybe more than that, but when it comes to devoting the rest of your life to somebody who has no standing in local society and doesn't even speak your language, dealing with your family and neighbors not sharing the same enthusiasm, suddenly things aren't so pretty. And of course any such man can have a new local chick each night, for all the same reasons every time ;) |

After all, if we get to the point where everyone pulls out a laptop with an Excel model to do a what-if analysis every time we meet someone new, the species would soon stop procreating! |

I suspect it's different in more homogenous societies. Here we have always had immigrants from all over the world, people are used to being around people who came from other places. I don't think being an immigrant is a significant obstacle to dating in the USA, I mean unless you are an American "Indian" we're all descendants of foreigners here. |
