One of several more tantalising snippets https://www.dropbox.com/s/2urywtwwlpt6sjb/2x.12_negative-resistance_WH.pdf?dl=1 illustrates one of the reasons it is so difficult to finish the d*mn thing[1]. Note the date in footnote 46

It also illustrates why electronics is so fascinating, and why I regretted leaving active development for the darkside.

[1] in reality, it can only be abandoned, not finished

I just hope that the X-Chapters and the Learning the Art of Electronics - A Hands-On Lab Course are also released in electronic format as the Art of Electronics 3rd edition was.

"The Art of Electronics - the x-Chapters" is currently at the UK printer, with the ink drying by the last week in November 2019; although the "official" publication date is the end of January 2020, we're told that there should be availability sometime in December.  We've already pre-ordered our own copies!

I don't think there would be any objection to our posting the ToC -- anyone interested?  Also, we're going to put up a website in the next couple of weeks, with some sample chapter sections... stand by!

As another Cambridge U. Press author I can attest that release dates are hard to predict, and my latest book made it to New Zealand before the United States, and some Americans got it before Amazon showed it in stock.  I wish you success!

Preordered on Amazon.co.uk :)
And why not on amazon.ES like I did?

:-DD I preordered it on amazon.es indeed. I was confused, I preordered something else on Amazon.co.uk because it's not available on .es :D

(Making Waves, The Art of Cinematic Sound if you are curious).

In the wires and connectors chapter, Table 1x.3, is Fmax of APC-7 really 50 Ghz? Thought it was more like 18, maybe 20.

Breaking news: the x-chapters are in print!  We just got the first two copies to arrive in the Western hemisphere (see picture).  Here's the link to the website: x.artofelectronics.net

Wikipedia says 18, but they were used without (significant) moding on the HP 8517A/B test sets rated for 50 GHz, so...  :-//  Good question.

The HP8517, properly calibrated, will have compensated for any small-ish deviations from the connector.

True enough, but that reasoning only goes so far.  For instance, if a mode results in large impedance excursions at certain frequencies and you connect the test set to an amplifier port that expects something close to 50R, you might need to de-embed the results.

As in, "de-embed" the fragments of the MMIC package from your ceiling tiles.

Winfield and I are happy to sign books, but the shipping to and fro complicates things.  Win has sometimes bought copies of AoE3, which we've then signed and put on eBay for a fixed "buy it now" price that covers our costs (book plus postage).  We'll probably continue that tradition, which aligns well with our test purchases (for checking for counterfeits).

FYI, in response to someone receiving the book, Win Hill points out...

Whoa, lucky you!  Paul and I haven't even gotten our
 on-order boxes of books yet.

BTW, reminder, CUP's 20% discount is over 29 February.

Cool! I didn't know that you could pre-order through CUP. I've been avoiding pre-ordering it through Amazon for all the usual reasons (awful labour practices, not paying any taxes etc.). Now pre-ordered with CUP with a grand saving of £0.10 on the Amazon price as well as a clear conscience - cushty!
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Yes, I would have preferred that too.

I've just been informed my £40 Amazon book should arrive 5th/6th February.

Look what the postman just handed to me!

No questions on the contents yet please, I've literally had this 5 minutes.

Edited to add:

"Pre-ordered" through CUP on this Tuesday afternoon around 3 pm with the expectation of a fair old wait for it - arrived midday today. That's less than 48 hours from 'pre-order' to delivery.

I think I'll go and buy a lottery ticket and see if my Doctor's got an appointment free tommorrow at a time that's super-convenient for me. :-)

FYI, if you are in the US like me, ordering through CUP with the discount code may not beat the Amazon price, but it is close.  Close enough to avoid Amazon IMO.  (The difference for me was less than a dollar.)
