Nice idea! I will try it next time breadboarding.

Would be totally ace if chip manufacturers would do something like that for real. I know this is asking too much.

The mbed has a credit card-like pinout reference.

The Parallax Propeller kits came with a sticker like that - it's a neat idea.

The print gets a bit small on 0.5mm pitch quad packages though :)

If chip pacakges were white, we could just write on them with permanent marker!

Not sure if it was Adafruit or Sparkfun that I saw them first, but those stickers have been around for well over a year, a great help when bread boarding.

For breadboarding a complex chip, yes - at least the best idea since the breadboard itself.

Did something similar, back in '09, quite useful

I asked if they would make PIC stickers in their weekly chat, I had to duck, quickly.

I seem to remember seeing something similar for 7400 series around 30 years ago. The logic gates being shown and the sheets having the most used types on them. Cannot remember if I bought them or if they were a magazine freeby.

It should not be to difficult to find an online sticker printing shop doing small stickers for a reasonable price. Now, what to do with a few hundred or thousand stickers is another story.

I think they came with Elektor magazine.  I still have a few old 74 series chips with the stickers attached in a box somewhere

Those stickers keep appearing now and then on random magazines and pieces of equipment that I have had packed away for years! I can't confirm if they were Elektor, but it is certainly the sort of thing they used to do.

Ok, this is unusual for me, I usually just lurk silently but... I have to admit, this is a great idea :D

I just had to say that... and also wonder, why didn't I think of that!

Dont forget to write tolerances and temperature coefficients down on them using Comic Sans. And remember, 0603 is not an excuse! :P

And I dare you all to create such stickers for ARMs, including alternate functions and remaps. :>

Here's a useful idea for someone to implement - Findchips or Adafruit perhaps?

A website which lets you download existing chip labels and create new ones easily, which are then shared with all users.

You enter a device part number - if someone has already done it you can immediately download a PDF sheet of labels.

If the part is not found, you select a package and pin count, type in pin names.
This new label is now available for you and everyone else.

Maybe have it able to compile a sheet comprising labels of multiple different parts so you maximise usage of sticky paper. Also have some pre-made group sheets - 74HC, 4000, etc.

Any takers amongst the web-monkets out there?

It's a very fine idea, but i'm not dealing with PHP again.
